Flexible carbon stems

The goal was to make a work of art that sustains a real time relationship with the office-area in real-time. The design is inspired by the movement of the long rushes on the water surface, graciously swinging in the wind. Swinging Lights [2003] consists of a series of flexible hollow carbon tubes with a height of 6 meters. The diameter is kept as minimal as possible to ensure an elegant non-stop waving-motion. On the top of the stalk a computer driven LED light is fixed, capable of changing its light intensity as to negotiate between the A12 highway and the local industrial buildings at the other side of the pond.
