The computer mouse is the tool of intuition. The mouse activates the STAD program on an ATARI 1040ST computer. Choosing different parameters, the vertices of the STAD draft are shifted along the flat surface of the screen. Hundreds of parametric 3d sketches are made. From this reservoir of slides taken from the screen and print-outs, various series of shifting sketches are chosen for further development. The sketch is subsequently rendered as a three-dimensional work. Folding, sawing and milling the aluminum sandwich stretches the flattened computer-image into the third-dimension, Swapping from the spatial digital draft to the flat print-out and from the projected draft to the folded aluminum, creates a tension between the dimensions, the perceptual area accessible to the artist is extended using the calculating speed of the computer. The thinking space of computer programs and the digital space of the computer enlarge the working space of the artist. The works of art are the condensers of that working space and are launched back to tangible reality. Without the computer the spectrum of perception would have been inhibited by the visual perceptive capacity of the senses. The computer is an extension of the human brain, enlarging the scope of the user. It is far from being a threat to the individual artist. The artist makes the decision how, when and whether to take advantage of the speed of the processing unit.
